Why Aliens? The Story Behind My Peace Alien Tapestry Crochet Pattern
Peace Alien Large Tapestry
Peace Alien Tapestry Crochet Pattern A calm, whimsical tapestry crochet pattern showing a serene alien surrounded by soft organic shapes. Finished piece feels calming and otherworldly.
My fascination with aliens began long before I picked up a crochet hook.
In 1980, I was at a drive-in movie theater with friends in New York’s Hudson Valley when we saw something in the sky that we couldn’t explain. The Hudson Valley would later become known for a wave of mysterious UFO sightings, but at the time, we were simply standing beneath the night sky wondering what we had witnessed.
That experience stayed with me.
The universe is unimaginably large, and I’ve always found it difficult to believe that we are its only inhabitants. But when I designed my Peace Alien, I wasn’t interested in creating something frightening. I wanted my alien to represent curiosity, connection, and the hope that somewhere—perhaps beyond the boundaries we have created—peace is possible.
A Different Kind of Alien
Peace Alien is cheerful, colorful, and just a little strange. In other words, it feels right at home in my world.
The design was created for tapestry crochet, a technique that allows you to build an image one stitch at a time. Watching the alien slowly appear is one of the most satisfying parts of making the pattern. A few blocks of color gradually become a face, an expression, and finally a character with a personality all its own.
The finished square can become whatever you imagine:
A small wall hanging
The front of a pillow
A tote bag panel
Part of a blanket filled with strange and unusual squares
A handmade gift for someone who has always believed
Choose colors that reflect your own style. Make your alien bright and playful, dark and mysterious, softly retro, or glowing green. There are no rules in this corner of the universe.
Crochet Something Unexpected
Crochet doesn’t always have to be traditional. It can tell a story, capture a memory, start a conversation, or simply make you smile.
Meet the Peace Alien 👽✌️
The Peace Alien is a playful tapestry crochet design inspired by my belief that the universe is bigger than we can imagine—and that somewhere beyond our little corner of it, there has to be more.
I designed the Peace Alien as a reminder to choose peace, kindness, and the greater good, wherever we are in the universe.
My Patterns Are a Little Different
My tapestry crochet patterns are created for experienced crocheters who enjoy making their own creative choices. Instead of telling you exactly which yarn, hook, gauge, or finished size you must use, I give you the design and let you decide where to take it.
The Peace Alien pattern includes a tapestry crochet chart and written instructions, along with the stitch and row counts you need to work the design.
Choose your favorite yarn. Pick the hook that works for you. Change the colors. Experiment with the scale.
Some of my designs are large and detailed, so they aren't created around one predetermined finished project. The chart is the starting point—not the limitation.
You know how you crochet. I provide the design; you make it yours.
Designed for experienced tapestry crocheters. Chart + written instructions included.
One Digital Chart for viewing on a device
One Larger Chart split file for printing and taping together.
Written Instructions using my color choices should you like to copy them.
Peace Alien was the first pattern in my growing collection of tapestry crochet designs. It represents the kind of work I love creating: bold images inspired by the ocean, unexplained mysteries, unusual creatures, and the things that continue to fill me with wonder.
If you enjoy crochet projects that are a little different—and you’re ready to make contact—Peace Alien is waiting for you.
